online scams

In a recent incident of cryptocurrency fraud in the state capital, a 31-year-old man, identified as Anil (name changed for privacy), fell victim to an eight-member gang, losing a staggering Rs 90 lakh. The victim, a native of Pippinmoodu, initially sought a part-time job online and expressed interest in a cryptocurrency trading opportunity advertised. Promised lucrative returns, he was drawn into investing in trading activities, deviating from his initial intention of predicting Bitcoin price movements.

The fraudsters created a wallet for Anil and offered his salary in cryptocurrency. Initially, the complainant experienced profitable returns by selling the received cryptocurrency. Encouraged by this, he continued investing, ultimately transferring Rs 90,36,284 to the accounts of the eight accused. However, the gang disappeared after receiving the funds, and all attempts to contact them failed. Anil subsequently filed a complaint with the city cybercrime police.

This incident adds to the growing number of cryptocurrency scams plaguing the nation, with law enforcement agencies actively working to combat such fraudulent activities.
