Addressing Historical and Geographical Disparities
During the 61st Statehood Day celebration in Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio unveiled a special development package of Rs 180 crore aimed at addressing socio-economic and infrastructure disparities in Eastern Nagaland. The chief minister acknowledged that historical and geographical factors have contributed to the comparatively lower development in the Eastern Nagaland region, setting it apart from other parts of the state.
Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) Creation in 2003
In his address, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the State Government’s initiative in 2003 to establish the Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) to specifically target and tackle underdevelopment in Eastern Nagaland and other deprived pockets.
Continuous Efforts by Central and State Governments
Over the past two decades, both the Central and State Governments have been working tirelessly to bridge the developmental gaps in these backward regions, according to the chief minister. He emphasized the ongoing implementation of a special development package of Rs 180 crore for Eastern Nagaland under the PM DeVINE initiative.
Call for More Developmental Projects

Reflecting on the collective journey of the Nagas since the formation of the Naga Club in 1918, Chief Minister Rio underscored the importance of unity. He urged the people to renew and strengthen the bonds of unity and brotherhood for the overall development of the state.
Commitment to Peaceful Resolution of Naga Political Issue
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio affirmed that the peaceful resolution of the Naga Political Issue remains the government’s top priority. He called upon all Naga Political Groups, the Government of India, and other stakeholders to work collaboratively to overcome differences and achieve a peaceful and early resolution of the longstanding Naga Political Issue.
Appeal for Dialogue and Understanding
Rio urged the people to resolve grievances through dialogue and understanding, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the true spirit of Naga brotherhood. He reassured the commitment of both the Central and State Governments to continue and expand special measures for the development of Eastern Nagaland and similar regions.
